30th Celebration launched September 16, 2026, and every product on TCGplayer still sold above MSRP that day: the Elite Trainer Box at 3.2x its $49.99 list price, the Pokémon Center ETB at 6.3x, the Ultra-Premium Collections at 3.4x to 3.7x; 32 of the 33 products with a published MSRP were at least double it. The nine weeks before that took our equal-weight index of the 16 products priced since July 5 down 58%. Launch day itself sorted the set into two halves: the expensive boxes gave price back, while the lines that actually contain packs went up. Below: every product priced against MSRP with buy links, what launch day did to the chase singles once real sales arrived, and what Pitch Black, Ascended Heroes and the 25th anniversary set say about the next six weeks and the next five years.

What this means for you
Buy at MSRP from a retailer on September 16 or in the restock waves, and if you miss, wait. The presale premium on the ETB has shrunk from 6.6x to 3.2x in nine weeks without a single pack being opened. The exception worth paying up for is a product-locked promo you cannot get later: the Pokémon Center ETB's stamped Nidorina.
The anniversary thesis is real but it is a five-year, MSRP thesis. The 2021 Celebrations ETB is 7.3x its list price today; paid at 3.2x MSRP that same outcome is roughly a double, before the next four years of risk. The presale premium is the seller's return, not yours.
Presale inventory is a melting asset: 21,871 units of this set have sold on TCGplayer since July while prices fell 58%. List now rather than into launch week, and keep the Classic Collection packs, the one line item that rose ($20 to $303).
What launches, and why the prices are like this
30th Celebration is the anniversary set for the Pokémon TCG, a 128-card expansion (about 150 with secret rares) where every card is foil, 30 different Pikachu rares appear one per pack, and a 30-card Classic Collection reprints past chase cards with a 30th anniversary stamp. It launches September 16, 2026 in Japan, the US and Europe on the same day, the first time a Pokémon set has done that, which removes the import window that used to prop up early English prices. There is no booster box: packs come only inside products, so the products are the market. The Classic Collection pack (three cards) is only guaranteed in the two $179.99 Ultra-Premium Collections on November 6. Product waves run September 16, October 2, October 30, November 6 and a reported December 4. MSRPs are from the published list; product contents from Pokémon.
Presale prices fell for nine straight weeks
We started pricing the set on July 5, 2026, the day TCGplayer listed most of it. Chaining the daily price moves of the 16 products priced from that day into one equal-weight index, the presale market has lost 58% of its value while nothing has shipped. Every preorder wave that landed at Pokémon Center, Target or Best Buy pulled the secondary price down another step.
Units sold on TCGplayer since July, top products
Falling prices did not mean no buyers: 21,871 units across the tracked products, 6,624 of them Elite Trainer Boxes and 1,701 Ultra-Premium Collections at $661 apiece.

The loose pack fell 84%; the Classic Collection pack rose 1416%
Buy on TCGplayerThe single most-traded line in the set is a loose booster pack: 2,421 sold since July. It opened at $135.96 on Jul 5 and was $21.15 on Sep 16. Products are still priced well above what their packs fetch loose: the ETB works out to $17.78 a pack, the Booster Bundle $19.04, the Ultra-Premium Collection $22.04, against $4.49 to $6.00 at MSRP.
The one thing that went the other way is the three-card Classic Collection pack, which TCGplayer lists on its own: $19.99 in mid July, $302.97 now, 72 sold. It is only guaranteed inside the Ultra-Premium Collections, and buyers have decided it is the scarce part. At presale prices a Night box at $661 is less than its parts: 29 loose packs plus one Classic pack come to $916.
What Pitch Black did after launch
Pitch Black launched July 17, 2026 and is the most recent set with clean data on both sides of launch. Its Elite Trainer Box was $108 when TCGplayer first listed it, $81 on launch day and $70 six weeks later (-13%). The Booster Box went $208 to $180. The chase singles did most of the falling: the top 6 by launch-day price lost an average 45% in six weeks, led by Mega Darkrai ex - 116/084 at $381 to $204.
Volume peaked in the presale week (3,303 ETBs in the two weeks before launch, 1,648 in the two weeks after, 1,375 in weeks three to six). The buyers who paid the most were the earliest ones.

The counterexample: Ascended Heroes
Ascended Heroes, the first Mega Evolution set, launched January 30, 2026. Its ETB followed the script for a month ($163 on launch day, $108 after 30 days) and then did not: by July it was back to $174 and it is $160 now. The chase cards went further: Pikachu ex - 276/217 was $500 at launch and $960 on Sep 16; Mega Dragonite ex - 290/217 went $404 to $573. First set of an era, the Mega mechanic's debut, and the two most searched Pokémon in the hobby on its chase cards: that combination beat the launch-week slide. 30th Celebration has the character pull (30 Pikachus, a Mew and a Mewtwo) but not the mechanic debut, and it has the largest print run of any special set the company has made.
Our pipeline has no snapshots from March 15 to July 4, 2026, so Ascended Heroes' 30-day figure is the last price before the gap and its six-week figure is the first after it. Perfect Order's launch fell inside the gap; we can only say its ETB was $397 in presale on Jan 18, $123 in July and $124 now, the Pokémon Center ETB $397 to $124, the Booster Bundle $90 to $37: the same presale premium, the same collapse.
Celebrations, five years on
The last anniversary set is the reason people preorder this one. Celebrations launched October 8, 2021 with a $49.99 ETB and a $119.99 Ultra-Premium Collection. On Sep 16 the ETB was $363 (7.3x MSRP), the Pokémon Center ETB $550, the Ultra-Premium Collection $1,240 (10.3x) and the Collector Chest $207. Since we began tracking in June 2024 the ETB has gone $78 to $363 (+368%); the Classic Collection's Charizard $68 to $165 and Umbreon Star $15 to $92.
Two things about that record. It was earned from MSRP, over years, through a 2022 to 2023 slump that our data does not reach back to. And it was earned on a set with a 25-card Classic Collection and a much smaller print run than 2026's, in a market that printed 10 billion cards last year. The anniversary hold has worked once. Paying 3.2x MSRP to start it is a different bet.

The singles, now that packs are open
TCGplayer listed 88 singles on Sep 16, counting the Classic Collection reprints that come out of the same packs, and only 35 of them have recorded a sale. That distinction is the whole story. The two Futuristic Rares carried presale asks of $3,167 and $1,000 on almost no volume at all; once launch day put real packs into circulation, Mew ex traded down to $1,260 (-60%) on 4 sales and Mewtwo ex to $706 (-29%) on 2. The rest of the list is asks, not prices: a card with no sales has a number next to it because one seller chose one. The dearest of them is Charizard at $380, which has never sold at all.
For scale, Pitch Black's top card opened at $381 and was $204 six weeks later; Chaos Rising's Mega Greninja SIR went from about $505 to $300 in the same span. The four-to-six-week wait has paid every time this year except Ascended Heroes, and this set's chase cards did most of that falling in their first week.

- If the print run is smaller than the simultaneous worldwide launch implies. Everything above assumes supply keeps landing in waves, as it has all summer.
- If a product-locked promo turns out to be the set's real chase. The Pokémon Center ETB's stamped Nidorina and the Classic Collection pack are the two candidates, and the Classic pack is the one line already behaving that way. Its cards price like it too: the 6 Classic Collection reprints with any price history have 1 sale between them, so those are the thinnest numbers in this piece until the November boxes ship.
- If this set gets Ascended Heroes treatment: character pull strong enough to override the supply story. Thirty Pikachu rares is exactly that kind of hook, so watch the Pikachu subset, not the ETB.
- Presale market prices are thin markets. A product with a few dozen sales moves on a handful of listings; the ETB and the bundle, with thousands of units, are the reliable series.
